THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW AS A CORPER WHEN LOOKING FOR ACCOMMODATION.

As an NYSC member, you have just been posted to a New environment, to obey the clarion call. You need an apartment.

Most place of Primary assignments have not been able to provide an accommodation. Or maybe the Corpers Lodge is not comfortable or maybe you know, there are big boys and girls who just need some privacy. Here are hints that might help you finding a good place to stay.

1. Get a place close to your Place of Primary assignment. You do not want to get a far apartment where you will have to spend #500 everyday on transportation to your PPA. That will not be too good. You should do the Math.

2. Beware of houses that the children of the original owners manage. You might end up paying rent to each of the children. It is possible. Just make sure the person in charge of the house is the real person in charge. Remember you do not know anyone here.

3. Try buying recharge card to know the type of neighbors you have. If the maximum you can get is only 200 naira, well, you know the kind of neighbors you have.

4. You don’t have a car and you want to rent house in a gated community where Okadas are not allowed to enter? Pity yourself o.

5. Bring out all your phones and modems to see which ones will get the strongest network signal. Start to give the strongest line to people that ask for your phone number. And with this age of internet, you need a strong network o.

6. Avoid houses that are near garages, whether Okada, keke Napep or bus garage. Apart from the noise and pollution, you know that NURTW change in leadership can be bloody. They use cutlasses, knives and the like to displace their ‘chairman’. You don’t want to get caught up in struggle for control of garage because your house is nearby. That is not part of the clarion call.

7. Ensure that a market is close or not too far. Chop Chop Corpers did not end during camp o.

8. Make sure the apartment is not too expensive. You can get one with a friend if that will not cause any future troubles. There is no NYSC allowance o.

9. Water is very important. If the house does not have a running tap, you should ask around where people fetch water and make sure its convenient for you.

10. If you notice a lot of shops in the neighborhood selling or repairing generators, it means light is not constant in that area. So you should think about that.

I know there are some other tips. Please add your own below. And if this article helps you, please share to someone else.

Dear Society!

Let’s settle something once and for all: Boys are allowed to have feelings, too.

I know you are uncomfortable with a boy who cries. I know you cringe to see a sad boy walking. I know you can’t stand to see a man barely able to crawl from his bed because of the darkness hanging in his head.

But here’s the thing, society: Real men do cry. Real men do feel. Real men talk and grieve and walk with vulnerable hearts instead of clenched-tight ones.

You are not a man if all you ever do is hide behind a straw house of strength. You are not strong if you never show us weak.

What if letting a boy walk away sad means we save him from not just a physical heart disease, but an emotional one, too, because he feels understood and supported and highly esteemed?

Where men can be real men.

And that, society, is worth letting my boy weep over losing a toy, because it meant a whole lot to him. It’s worth letting him cry when it’s time to leave a house, because he genuinely, wholeheartedly enjoyed this visit with people he loves. It’s worth watching those tears stain cheeks when he caused a little trouble at school, because he really, really regrets it.

Men have emotions too.

We feel things.

APPRECIATE THE PROCESS.

How fast can life become? How much can we do in the corporeal amount of time we have.

There are only 24 hours in the day, but we’re trying to fit 26 hours into it.
If we could watch a movie of our
average day we’d probably be amazed at all the things we try to do.

And then there is the exact opposite.
Some of us spend our lives watching
others doing and achieving, and from these images we build such high expectations of our own life, and then sit around feeling utterly powerless in our attempts to meet these expectations.

That powerlessness becomes
hopelessness and hopelessness becomes depression. If we can just see this process and release these expectations.

If we can at least be detached from any expectations, we will get back some of our inner power and self motivation.

It helps to stop watching others and their lifestyles, especially in the media, and then comparing yourself to them. It helps to eliminate all but one "I wish" from your mind.
There is only one valid and useful "I wish" and it is simply “I wish to be me”.

For that is all you can ever be. It is all you can ever have. It is all that you are.

And when you know it, you will be free of all expectation and desire, and able to enter the most relaxed state of being, at will.

The Navigator

Knowing in which direction we want to go, guides us to discovering what we stand for!

The path to becoming a superior man, a man who's purpose finds its importance above all else, will be scattered by temptations along the way, such as safe harbours for him to turn to just before a storm or the luring sight of  beautiful islands after a long stretch of the journey.

While many will turn to these safe harbours and temptations to find transient alleviation  from the hard journey.  The superior man knows there lies no experience in the safe harbour and that the islands can only offer a temporary lull from difficulties of his voyage.

These are all but distractions, tests, to see where the point of his  resolve may lie and his conviction to discovering who he is !  The safe harbours will represent him giving up on his journey and beautiful islands the succumbing to the luring temptations of desire.  These are only there to break his will!

Choose your direction  and navigate your ship, your crew will try to persuade you to give in to your purpose, and convince you there is nothing out there and that you should find a safe harbour or a beautiful island and that you don't know where you are headed.  A superior man knows that to obtain his freedom he must let go of his fears,  his desires and ideas of those around him and navigate the unknown.  For only then can the unknown become known. For only then can he discover who he truly is!

The navigator knows he follows only one direction and that is the one which leads him to his purpose.

Know your worth so you can hold your values against any question!
