Some children
take after their parents in different ways. Sometimes, when you enter a place you wouldn’t need anyone to
tell you who and who are related because you can see that on their faces. Some children
take the physical resemblance of their parents. But some others borrow behavioral
traits from their parents. In the same way, it is a fact that children inherit
many things from their parents and ancestors – disease, instincts, physical and
mental characteristics. The social status, educational achievements and
spiritual foundation of a father have a lot of influence on their children. As true
as it is that parents have influence over their children, one thing stands out –
God has given each individual freedom to choose what they want. It is only in
the physical matters that your parents’ situation can affect you without your
choice. When it comes to sin or guilt and righteousness, you have the freedom
to choose which you want. In whatever condition you find yourself, whether you
are rich or poor, healthy or sick, intelligent or unintelligent, learned or
illiterate, you are certainly free. You are responsible for all your actions. You
are not responsible for the action of your parents. You are not responsible for
the action of your siblings or that of your children. You can choose to walk
away from the pattern of life that other members of your family have chosen to
take. It is on the basis of your own choice that God will judge you. He will
not judge you on the basis of what you inherit of your parents, such as richness,
poverty, health, sickness, learning or intelligence. God will judge you on the
basis of your personal decisions and choice, whether you have done right or
wrong. This means you have the power to transcend your heritage and environment. All you need to do
is to connect to God and ask God to grant you the grace to live your own life.

A NEW COVENANT
God is a God
of covenant. That word covenant is a basic term that describes God’s
relationship with his people. God takes the initiate of entering into
relationship with his people, but God expects human beings to respond to that initiative.
Every generation of God’s people had to respond to it. The covenant had its
obligations and blessings, at a tie, the people of Israel began to ignore the
obligation of the covenant. God was always faithful, but they weren’t. It was
then that God made another provision of a better covenant. It would not be like
the old one. It was going to be a new covenant. it would be fulfilled in the
passion, death and resurrection of our lord Jesus Christ. Jesus says lifting up
the cup of wine “This is the blood of the new and eternal covenant.” St Paul
acknowledges, “God has made up competent to be ministers of the new covenant,
not of letter but of spirit”(2 cor 3:6). And Hebrews 9:15 says,” for this
reason he (Jesus) is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are
called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, because a death has occurred
that redeemed them from the transgression under the first covenant. “The center
of this new covenant is Jesus Christ.
Jesus had
freed us from sin through his passion, death and resurrection. He is the
perfect image of the father. He has shown us the way to the father. He has
opened the gate of heaven for us. Possession of heaven is the target of this
new covenant. The new covenant brings us in contact with the Holy Spirit. Everyone
who is baptized has already entered into the covenant. The obligation of this
covenant is to trust in God. He gives us the grace to fulfill the covenant.
WHAT WE DON'T GET ABOUT MARRIAGE
OKAY, I’ve
heard people say things like “oh, there’s no perfect couple; everyone has a
weakness and a stuff. Therefore everyone is supposed to tolerate his/her spouse
despite his/her weakness.
Please, the
issue with the world today is people have occupied their mind with the idea
that being completely compatible is inevitable. But really this is the wrong
perception, we can have perfect couples; couples who really love and are
willing to look out for each other for the long run; couples that can live together,
understanding each other and living in harmony.
What is a
perfect couple?
A perfect
couple comprises of two people who of course love each other; are willing to be
together for the long run; are aware that they are in a completely imperfect
society; are also aware that they are completely imperfect beings but are
willing to work on themselves just for the purpose of making each other happy
and satisfied.
As we can
see, the difference here is that there is the willingness; the strong willingness;
that sacrifice;the ever burning willingness not to keep fighting that battle to
be better versions to suit the other, of course suiting the other also means
being in conformity with the moral standards defined by God by virtue of their Christianity.
So, having
said that, I should also remind us that God gave each and every one of us a
brain with which we are supposed to know what is perfect for us. Don’t get me wrong,
God is knows what is best for us but that doesn’t mean that we should have no
clue of what we need in life and what would suit our lifestyle if we are not
willing to change it for anyone. In other words, we should know what we need. A
staunch Christian can’t decide to marry a staunch Muslim person and expect the
marriage to last.

THE JOURNEY OF FAITH
Let
us reflect on the faith of a woman of Cana who met Jesus. She came asking Jesus
to deliver her daughter who was under a terrible attack of the demon. At first,
Jesus didn’t give her any positive response and the disciples of Jesus rejected
the woman. But the woman had made up her mind to get what she wanted from Jesus.
She didn’t want to accept “no” for an answer. She seemed to have blocked Jesus’
way and fallen prostrate before him determined to win his approval. In the
process, Jesus told her that it was improper to give the children’s food to the
dogs. But the woman’s faith supplied the right response. She agreed to what the
lord said, but added that the dogs eat from the crumbs that fall off the master’s
table. This was where the high court of heaven ruled out in favor of this
woman. And Jesus exclaimed: “woman, your faith is great! Let what you want be
done for you.” That ended the matter.
Sometimes,
we are faced with a great need like this woman. That is the time we are
expected to demonstrate our faith in God. We need to show that we believe in
God’s word and that we know his promises. Delay is never a denial, but a test
of faith. Faith is a journey. It has a beginning and an end. The Canaanite woman
followed up in her journey of faith from the beginning to the end. Many of us
begin with faith but end with doubts. Where do you stop in your faith journey? Build
up your faith in the word of God. It is faith that keeps you going when the
journey gets tough. When you are not getting what you expected, it is faith
that will sustain you. When you feel rejected and abandoned, it is faith that
will motivate you. Hold on to your faith!
