THE DANGER OF ENVY

Part of the problem with many people is that they condemn what they cannot do and speak ill of people who accomplish deeds they have no power to achieve. Can you imagine how the pharisees turned the atmosphere of Jesus' miracle to mockery? Jesus had performed a spectacular miracle that made everyone marvel and exclaim, "It was never so seen in Israel" (Mathew 9:33). The pharisees who saw this said it was by the power of demons that Jesus cast out demons. This is a true picture of envy. Envy is a discontent at the excellence or good fortune of another. An envious person is grieved in the heart at seeing what others have or their good fortune. Envy is an evil-eye. Nothing can convince anyone under the influence of envy. Envy had pushed these pharisees to the angle where they ascribed God's power to the devil. The desire to destroy the reputation of Jesus made them loose respect for God and to insult God. That tells you the danger of envy.
Envy can generate hatred for people and make you fight those who are innocent. When you hate people because of their talents, you would not know when you'd begin to use harmful words on them. Envy destroys friendships, shutters family bonds, breaks up business ventures etc. Think of how many music stars, movie stars and other stars suddenly embarked on an open confrontation with one another and sometimes, taking one another to courts. Envy is the reason for that . Envy has resulted in blackmailing and slandering of business pals; fellow staff;bosses etc.
What else could have made Joseph's brothers to out if not envy? (Gen 37:11). Joseph had a dream bigger than theirs, and that triggered hatred and envy in them.
Daniel was envied by elders who knew that prayer was the secret of his success; so they set a trap for him, but he conquered. It was envy that led the Jews to kill Jesus (Mathew 27:18). Are you envious? Envy is not good for you. it will affect your health and even quicken your death. The presence of envy means the absence of Love (1 Cor 13:4). You need to ask God to fill you with Love for everyone. Remember that where there is envy, every other sin exists too.
