SIN

When we live in unconfessed sin, our relationship with God becomes affected. The longer we live this way, the further away from God we become. But the moment we confess our sins sincerely and turn our backs on them and God is always willing and happy to have back fellowship with his child.

Sin puts a wedge between us and God. Our relationship with God becomes strained. In the Garden of Eden, man had unbroken fellowship with God, but when Adam sinned, that relationship was severed by the weight of sin. In the same way, sin creates a hindrance to our relationship and access to God in our personal lives and devotion to God. But thank God, Jesus has paid the ultimate sacrifice to blot out our sins and reconnect us to God to sustain our fellowship. The same saving power in the blood of Jesus that brings us to God when we become born again is still constantly working to cleanse us from every unrighteousness any time we fall into sin. We must live a life above sin with the help of the Holy Spirit. In 2 Corinthians 12:9, we are made to see that God’s grace is sufficient for us and that living a victorious life above sin is possible. And whenever we fall, we can quickly rise above it with genuine repentance, confession and asking for mercy by the Blood of Jesus.

Examine your life, repent of any unconfessed sin and ask God for mercy by the Blood of Jesus. Also pray for the grace to live above sin and temptations.

HINDRANCES

In as much as God wants to revive us and move supernaturally in our midst, there are things that can hinder revival. There are things we must get rid of in our lives in other to create a landing pad for the move of God.

Examples of such are:

1.     Self pride. Pride manifests when we don’t need God, His word, and His direction.

2.     Satisfaction- when we are no longer hungry for God, we are satisfied with the ways things are.

3.     Prayerlessness- when we are not praying to God any more or when we are busy praying for only our needs.

4.     SIN- unconfessed sin. When we have made sin a habit, we comfortably live in sin taking God’s grace for granted.

These four things are obstacles to revival. No matter how long we cry and how loud we cry to God to move ,if we do not take care of these hindrances, God will not move not because he doesn’t want to move but because He cannot move.

With popular interest in the occult at an all-time high, and even the pope warning us about demonic influence, Fr. “Many people are over-emotional on this subject," says Fr. Driscoll. “I wanted to sift through that and give a sober, objective look—from Church teaching and the testimony of working exorcists."

Part of that objectivity, he says, involves the ability to distinguish between mental illness and demonic influence. “Chronic mental and emotional problems may be exacerbated by demons," he says, “because the devil likes to attack us where we’re weakest. But not every problem has a demon behind it."

Such discernment, he adds, is too often lacking in so-called “deliverance ministries," which place undue emphasis on “spiritual warfare" against extraordinary demonic attacks and not enough on the less sensational way that most of us encounter the devil’s influence—in the daily temptations to sin.

Facts You Ignore Before Accusing Catholics of “Mary Worship"

I love the Blessed Mother! There…I said it and I’m glad I did! As a Catholic, I’m so blessed to be a member of the Church that truly honors and respects the Mother of my Lord and Savior. I must admit that, even though I’m a cradle Catholic, I didn’t always feel this way. In fact, for most of my life I didn’t understand Mary’s role or care about her too much. What a mistake! Now, after several recent accusations of “Mary worship" on my Facebook page, it’s time to stand up for my “Mom". And, even though I love her and want to defend her honor, I have no intention of getting nasty. Rather, I’d prefer to present 5 facts about Mary. Before you accuse Catholics of worshiping Mary, I ask you to take a long hard look at these facts. They have a way of poking holes in the theory that we place too much emphasis on Mary. If you still want to accuse Catholics of worshiping Mary, then I suggest you ignore these facts!

1. God Sent The Savior Through Mary – I list this one first because it’s really tough to downplay Mary’s importance while acknowledging that the long awaiting Messiah came to earth by being born of a woman…and that woman was Mary. Out of all the ways that Jesus could have come to earth, why was Mary chosen? If Mary was important to God, shouldn’t she mean something to us?






2. Jesus Performed His First Miracle At Mary’s Request – This is another good one. Oh I know, Jesus didn’t need Mary to turn the water into wine at Cana. She just happened to be there. OK, why then did St. John list Mary FIRST in his list of wedding guests?

On the third day there was a marriage at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there; Jesus also was invited to the marriage with His disciples. (John 2:1-2)

If Mary is not important in this saga, why is she listed BEFORE the apostles and BEFORE Jesus? St. John the Evangelist was not known for inserting extraneous details. Mary is listed first because John wants to call the readers’ attention to her presence at the wedding.

But what about “the rebuke"? You know, the argument that Jesus was telling Mary to “butt out" when He stated:

“O woman, what have you to do with me? My hour has not yet come." (John 2:4)

Jesus was a devout Jew and an obedient follower of the Ten Commandments. Why would He publicly dishonor His mother in violation of the Fourth Commandment? Secondly, if this was such a “put down" by Jesus, why did He go ahead and perform the miracle of changing water into wine? Wouldn’t that have been the end of the request. Of course it would, unless He wasn’t putting Mary down. When His mother interceded on behalf of the couple, Our Lord decided thatHis time had now come. Don’t you think Jesus is trying to tell us something? Isn’t is probable that Jesus waited until Mary’s request, in order to show us her intercessory power? Doesn’t that explain why St. John listed her first among the guests?

3. Jesus Gave Mary To John From The Cross – As He suffered and died on the Cross, Jesus made a very profound statement:

When Jesus saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing near, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!" Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!" And from that hour the disciple took her to his own home. (John 19:26-27)

Why, while struggling to speak as He hung on the Cross, would Jesus have spoken these words if they didn’t mean anything? Could He have been making small talk? Obviously, there was a reason that Our Lord did what He did. The Church has always believed that John represented each member of the Church and that, from that moment on, Mary became our spiritual mother. Scripture tells us that, on that day John accepted Jesus’ gift and “took her to his own home" (John 19:27). Shouldn’t we do the same?

4. Jesus’ First Graces Were Given Through Mary – This is a fact that frequently gets overlooked by those who wish to downplay Mary’s importance…and it comes straight from the Bible! After accepting God’s offer to become the Mother of the Savior, Mary traveled “in haste" to visit her relative, Elizabeth.

And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the child leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit. (Luke 1:41)

According to this Bible passage, before Jesus was even born, Mary’s voice was used to deliver the graces to Elizabeth. Why? Because she’s not important? Isn’t there some other way, these graces could have been dispensed?

Not convinced? Listen to what Elizabeth had to say (also directly from the Bible)…

“For behold, when the voice of your greeting came to my ears, the child in my womb leaped for joy." (Luke 1:44)

It’s pretty hard to deny the importance of Mary’s presence and voice in dispensing these graces to Elizabeth. Did the graces originate from Mary? No, they obviously came from Jesus. However, He chose to have Mary make the journey and use her voice to deliver them. Why? Because He wants us to realize that she is important!

5. Jesus Christ Is The Sole Mediator Between God And Man – Now, this doesn’t make sense. How does this help to support the Catholic position? This is why we Catholics “have it all wrong", isn’t it? Sorry if I’m bursting anyone’s bubble, but Catholics absolutely believe that Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man. The Catechism of the Catholic Church (CCC) clearly states this belief:

Intercession is a prayer of petition which leads us to pray as Jesus did. He is the one intercessor with the Father on behalf of all men, especially sinners. (CCC 2634)

This Catholic teaching is supported by the following Bible passage:

For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, who gave Himself as a ransom for all. (1 Timothy 2:5-6)

Although Jesus Christ is the sole mediator between God and man, that doesn’t preclude others (including Mary) from being involved in a subordinate mediation, or intercession. Saint Paul, who made the above statement, is obviously aware of that fact since he several times urges his readers to pray for each other (Romans 1:9, 1 Thessalonians 5:25, 1 Timothy 2:1). The Catechism refers to this type of intercession as being a “participation in the intercession of Christ" (CCC 2635) and is put into practice each time we pray for one another. Asking Mary to intercede for us in no way takes away from Jesus’ role as mediator between God and men.

While I’m not naive enough to think that listing these 5 facts will render me immunefrom further accusations of “Mary worship", I do think that they will have an effect if looked at with an open mind. Sacred Scripture does not contain a lot of words about Mary, but what’s there is powerful. Theologians have spent 2,000 years studying her Biblical appearances and will continue to do so. We can learn much by studying Mary’s role as documented in the pages of the Bible. If anyone wants to accuse me of being a “Mary worshiper", I ask you to first look at these 5 facts. If you still want to point a finger, you’ll need to ignore these factual statements…because accepting them will seriously undermine your credibility!

Church , Hypocrites

This is a common excuse for not attending church, and my less than righteous, off-the- cuff reaction is, “C’mon and join us, there’s always room for one more." The truth of the matter is that everyone has probably been guilty of some hypocrisy at one point or another, but it is a dangerous thing.
The word “hypocrite" comes from the Greek language and was used in the theater to speak of an actor who puts on a false face to play a part. It came to be used in a metaphorical sense of someone who is a
pretender, and not genuine. Hypocrisy is denounced in both the Old and New Testaments, with Jesus speaking against it very strongly. He warned people saying, “…you nullify the word of God for the sake of
your tradition. You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men." (Matthew 15:6-9) All people are sinners, but we do not have to practice hypocrisy. Hypocrisy has to do with dishonesty; putting on a face that isn’t genuine. Hopefully we are genuine when we
come to God. He certainly isn’t fooled by our words or outward actions since He knows our hearts. Another issue here might be a misconception of what a Christian is. A Christian is not a person who is perfect, nor one who gives the impression that they are. In fact, in order to become a Christian, one
has to genuinely admit to God that he is an unworthy sinner, and in need of God’s mercy
through Jesus. No doubt people can and do attend church for the wrong reasons at times,
but that is not everyone, all the time. And if some are hypocritical, it certainly doesn’t have to affect your relationship with God. He calls you to be honest before Him and totally committed to Him. A church worship service is to be a group of forgiven sinners who honestly seek to honor and thank God, and\ learn more of Him. They gather together to encourage one another in that faith. Someone once said it this way: “Church is not a museum for saints, but a hospital for
sinners!" In the final run, Christianity does not stand or fall with how well people live. It is based upon
Jesus Christ who is NOT a hypocrite, but is “The Truth". He did give His life to pay for our
sins, and He did rise from the dead as He said He would do. It would be a pity for you
to allow someone else’s failures to keep you from growing in your relationship with the Lord and being obedient to Him. May God help us each be genuine. We need to make sure that we are not like those of whom Jesus spoke; those who honor Him with their lips while in reality their hearts are far from

SIN BRINGS SHAME

Imagine a man of honour and integrity, a man people adore because of his high level respectability committing a shameful act, maybe stealing an item from someone’s shop and was caught. Then he is brought before the crowd and stripped naked, with lances of the cane demonstrating on his body. That man has lost his respect forever in that town. He has become a shameful man. That is what sin does to a believer. Whenever a believer commits sin, he is like a man of honour who has been caught stealing, and who will have to face the crowd naked. Sin takes away the glory of God from a believer and renders him empty. Sin tears out the garment of righteousness from the life of a Christian and makes him dirty. Sin makes a believer to lose their respect and honour; to throw away their dignity and begin to walk in shame. Sin pushes a Christian down below his standard. Sin sucks away the confidence of a child of God and makes him operate in fear and shame. Sin causes someone to die mysteriously and shamefully. Sin transforms a powerful man or woman of God into a slave. Sin causes sickness and infirmity. A life of iniquity removes the garment of glory from the life of a child of God. What kind of life are you living? Remember there is a consequence to everything that is done upon earth. Get connected again to a life of holiness. Righteousness will exalt you, because righteousness exalts a nation and sin is a reproach.

Righteousness will pull you out from the mud of destruction. it will destroy the hand of the devil holding you down.

Righteousness will establish you as an authority. Righteousness will bring glory and respect to you. It will enlarge your vision and equip you with all you need to accomplish them. Righteousness is all you need to be victorious over the tactics of the devil.

CLEAN UP THE TEMPLE

Imagine yourself packing into a new house. As you walk into one of the rooms, you discover it is in a state of clutter, mess and filth. Dirty, ramshackle curtains are hanging at the windows. At one corner of the room, you could see spider webs coiled into a thick net, and then lacing across to the opposite corner. The floor is so dusty with clothes lying where they fell. Then, a stinky odour is piercing into your nostrils, making it difficult for you to breathe in. I am sure you will not begin to bring your luggage into that room without first doing some clean up. This analogy can fit into our relationship with Jesus. Sometimes, we find our lives being as dirty as this dirty room. Jesus cannot come into such environment. He can’t sleep there. He can’t dwell there. One day, Jesus walked into the temple and was aghast at the level of clutter and filthiness He found there.

 People were buying and selling. There were some who stood at the corner of the temple, giving change to those who were buying and selling. He must have shaken His head in disappointment and grinded His teeth in anger. It was so terrible that people could turn the temple into a business centre, a place for cheating people. His action demonstrated His words. He made a whip of cords and drove them all out of the temple courts, with the sheep and the oxen. He also scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. He spoke sternly to them: “take these things away from here! Do not make My Father’s house a market place!”(JOHN 2:16). We need Jesus to do the same thing in our lives. We are the temples of the Holy Spirit. We need to devote and dedicate our entire lives to the authority of the Holy Spirit. We need to shun every act of uncleanliness, every atom of sin; every manifestation of filthiness. Today is a day to clean the temple of the lord, which is your life. Surrender your life to God and ask Jesus to deliver you.

DON'T LEAD PEOPLE TO SIN

There is no need to expect a life totally freed from temptations, because it will never come. Not only were there no biblical people that did not have temptations, but Jesus went on to express that temptations must really come. Note how Jesus presented this fact: “it is not possible but that temptations to sin will com.” He means that temptations must come, whether you believe it or not. No amount of prayer can push temptations totally away from you. What is temptation? It is anything that tries your faith. Temptation is persecution to your faith. Anything that causes a person to sin is a temptation. You will see such things everywhere: the business, the office, the marketplace, the play field, the club, the home and even in the church. Occasions of sin abound in the world. Yet, Jesus sounds a warning, “woe unto him through whom they come.” Anyone who creates an occasion for sin has the blame. God will punish anyone who causes others to sin; who create obstacles to people’s faith.

This can happen in the following ways.

a.     By seducing others to sin: We have a lot of people who build immodest and immoral structures that constitute obstacles to other people’s faith. Some people have the habit of luring other people into cursing and talking filthy; into being conceited and prideful; into complaining and criticizing others; into being worldly and materialistic.

b.     By making a false profession of faith: Jesus describes such people as hypocrites. They are people who claim to be what they are not. They are full of pretence and falsity. They constitute a stumbling block to people, because they are not giving good examples.

c.      By discouraging people from following Christ: they do this through words or deeds, abuses or neglects, persecutions, slander etc.

People who belong to this category are provoking God.

Jesus says, “it would be better for them to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around their neck” (MK 9:42).

LEARN TO WORK

The scripture tells us that God is the creator of heaven and earth and that He created man in His own image. If we are created in the image and likeness of God, then we should resemble God. He is a God of creation. We too should be creators of things. Creativity is a special gift from God to mankind. God does not want us to sit and watch things happen. He wants us to be involved in making things happen. Gen 2:15 says, “Then the lord God took man and put him in the Garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Right from the beginning, God designed human beings to be working beings and made work a way through which the blessings of God could be assessed. Those who do not like to work will not be successful. Jesus said, “My father has been working until now, and I have been working” (john 5:17). People of labour will be great.

Laziness is a dangerous disease and a most despised quality in the bible. It is the cause of most problems in the world, “because of laziness the building decays, and through idleness of hands the house leaks” (Eccl 10:18). “He who is slothful in his work is a brother to him who is a great destroyer” (Prov 18:9). Love of work is one of the most important qualities we should develop. God loves a hardworking person. Idleness or useless talks will take you nowhere. Spend the time you have for something useful and helpful. Spend your life creating things. That way, you are fulfilling the will of God.

FALSE AMBITION

The sons of Zebedee came with their mother to ask for positions in the kingdom. They were seeking personal greatness. God never grants anyone greatness that is not geared towards service. They wanted position, recognition, power and authority. In order to get what they wanted, they used their mother. They thought that their mother could influence Jesus. They did not want greatness on qualification, but by connection. Ambition often pushes someone to use other people to achieve their ends. False ambition misuses influence, position and power. Among the twelve disciples of Jesus only three – peter, James and john formed the inner cycle. These three saw and witnessed many things that the others did not see. James and john must have been thinking they were superior to others because of the great privilege that Jesus gave them. Hence they wanted to sieze the opportunity to secure positions in heaven using their mother’s influence.

The root of false ambition is pride. The two brothers must have felt special among other disciples. They must have felt uniquely favoured and loved. They believed their prayer would be answered because they had succeeded in convincing themselves that those positions belonged to no other persons than themselves, based on the privileges they had enjoyed. They thought others inferior to themselves. False ambition is bad and should be avoided. There is good and healthy ambition. Good ambition gives meaning, purpose and significance to life. It builds drives, goals and initiatives. But bad ambition destroys, corrupts. It only thinks about power and exaltation. It is rooted in pride. Avoid it

· The real essence of life becomes a mirage when such life is lived in isolation from the Maker.

· You can judge a wise man by the number of times he avoids the path of quarrel with his wife.

· Service is the rent we pay for being. It is the very purpose of life and not something you do in your spare time.
