THE JOURNEY OF FAITH

Let us reflect on the faith of a woman of Cana who met Jesus. She came asking Jesus to deliver her daughter who was under a terrible attack of the demon. At first, Jesus didn’t give her any positive response and the disciples of Jesus rejected the woman. But the woman had made up her mind to get what she wanted from Jesus. She didn’t want to accept “no” for an answer. She seemed to have blocked Jesus’ way and fallen prostrate before him determined to win his approval. In the process, Jesus told her that it was improper to give the children’s food to the dogs. But the woman’s faith supplied the right response. She agreed to what the lord said, but added that the dogs eat from the crumbs that fall off the master’s table. This was where the high court of heaven ruled out in favor of this woman. And Jesus exclaimed: “woman, your faith is great! Let what you want be done for you.” That ended the matter.

Sometimes, we are faced with a great need like this woman. That is the time we are expected to demonstrate our faith in God. We need to show that we believe in God’s word and that we know his promises. Delay is never a denial, but a test of faith. Faith is a journey. It has a beginning and an end. The Canaanite woman followed up in her journey of faith from the beginning to the end. Many of us begin with faith but end with doubts. Where do you stop in your faith journey? Build up your faith in the word of God. It is faith that keeps you going when the journey gets tough. When you are not getting what you expected, it is faith that will sustain you. When you feel rejected and abandoned, it is faith that will motivate you. Hold on to your faith!
