Have you had
to run for your dear life? Imagine that
a group of armed robbers were pursuing you and you had to run for your dear
life. In the bible there was a man who had to run for his life, not because of
armed robbers but because the city he was living in was about to be destroyed. It
was lot. He had been living in the land of Sodom and Gomorrah. The land of Sodom
and Gomorrah became notorious with iniquity and God’s anger kindled against them.
But God wanted to spare lot and his family. Genesis 19:15 says, “At dawn, the angels tried to make lot
hurry. “Quick!” they said “take your wife and your two daughters and get out,
so that you will not lose your lives when the city is destroyed.” What in
the first place, took lot to Sodom? It was the attraction of the Jordan valley
that took him there. He chose to stay there because he discovered it was well
watered and flourishing. But it was too close to Sodom. It didn’t take long for
him to move into Sodom. He knew that people of Sodom were wicked, yet he chose
to live there. Some choices that we make
are just too close to Sodom. If you pitch your tent near Sodom, you will
soon live in it. Sodom is a symbol of sin. Don’t
live very close to sin and say it does not matter. You will soon find
yourself rolling in the depth of that sin. People who have been trapped by
addiction did not envisage that addiction. The addiction started like some
innocent harmless acts. Some gamblers started just by putting a quarter in the slot
machine. Some pornographers started by just a glance at some funny pictures
that didn’t seem to matter much. Some thieves started by taking away their
parent’s little pennies. Some fornicators started by just giving it a trial. You
don’t play with fire. If you do, you will get burnt. Sin has the power to draw.
Don’t tempt yourself, because you will surely fall. Don’t give sin a chance to
drag you back in! Make sin to lose its breadth trying to catch up with you. If you
have been caught by addiction, all you have to do is to RUN for your dear
life. The angel said to lot and his family, “RUN for your lives! Don’t look back and don’t stop in the valley. Run
to the hills so that you won’t be killed”. (Gen 19:17). Do whatever it will
take for you to quit that sin, because that addiction is digging your grave.
