Frequently we
find ourselves judging others. But Jesus says we should not judge and by that
he means we should not condemn or judge rashly. It is wrong for us to judge
people. We don’t always judge people rightly because our sense of judgment is
polluted by our limitation. We judge people according to our own ideas and we
are not good enough to be a standard for anyone. We are not able to know a
person fully. Our judgment is often not true. We can’t read the heart of
people. We don’t often know why they behave the way they do. We don’t know
whether what they are doing is coming from their hearts. We don’t understand
the reasoning of another person. It is ours that we know. People with two
different temperaments would have to behave differently. It doesn’t necessarily
mean that one is better than the other. If you are blessed with a calm
temperament, you would have to do things differently from someone who is
blessed with a hot temperament. You are not better than the other person. If you
were born by rich and wealthy parents, you don’t understand the plights of
those from a wretched family. If you were brought up by good, God fearing
parents, you know nothing about the struggles of the one brought up in the
slum. You don’t know what they are passing through and the efforts they are
making. Don’t condemn them. Those you condemn may be better than you. Stop looking
at people from the outside and lashing down at them with unfriendly criticisms.
Rather, encourage those who are struggling. With God on their side they can
improve.
